Dr. Harold Varmus to Step Down as Director of the National Cancer Institute

Dr. Harold Varmus has announced that he will step down as Director of the National Cancer Institute at the end of the month. Taking over as Acting Director on April 1, 2015, will be Dr. Douglas Lowy, currently the Institute's Deputy Director and head of the Laboratory of Cellular Oncology at NCI’s Center for Cancer Research.

Addressing Cancer Health Disparities

Despite advances in research, some population groups continue to experience unequal burdens of cancer. The NCI Center to Reduce Cancer Health Disparities (CRCHD) works to eliminate cancer disparities and train the next generation of underrepresented investigators in cancer and disparities research.
