Carrier Interconnect

Obtain enterprise grade network services that connect your infrastructure to Google via our service providers.

What is Carrier Interconnect?

Google Cloud Interconnect enables you to connect your infrastructure to Google, via Enterprise-grade connections to Google's network edge. The connections are offered by GCI service providers. Connecting with GCI will enable your infrastructure to connect to Google Cloud with higher availability and lower latency connections.

GCI links can be used to access any Google Cloud Platform resource like Google Compute Engine, Google Cloud Storage, Google BigQuery service, etc. You can even extend your private network into your private GCE network over GCI links by using a VPN tunnel between the networks.

Google also supports direct connections to your network through Direct Peering.

Typical GCI Use Cases

Data Intensive applications

Services that require a network connection which has consistent high demands for data, can have significant benefits from using a GCI connection. For example, one use case is a data center which constantly pulls/pushes data from/to Google Cloud Storage to perform heavy computation task on machines within the data center.

Latency Sensitive applications

Services that demand a predictable and fast request-response cycles from or to your cloud resources. For example, another use case is an on-demand service that sends small images to be manipulated on GCE instances and then displays them on some website a user has just opened.
